Southern NE . Clear skies . Full Moon
There is a huge ring around the moon , as the eclipse nears . Clouds go through this ring , but are not seen until they exit .

edit - Midnight - Conditions remain the same . Now it is like looking at the other end of the telescope . A small ring , with black/gray, very tight rings around the moon . Clouds still disappear while in the ring . Moon an odd white/gray color .

Was really looking forward to this event...a totality.

Been raining for 39 hours now, which in the Mojave Desert, causes major problems. Clouds only last night...dang!

And in Monterey - but the fog is thick and can't see much. Hopefully around midnight my time it'll clear up a bit. AND IT DID. Total fog until around 11:30 and then it parted to reveal total eclipse. Woke up my 9 year old and made her watch. She grumbled a bit but will thank me later -as I thank you now.

Thanks (again) for posting the link to remind me. I knew it was Tuesday but forgot that meant Tuesday morning as opposed to tomorrow night.

Noyt much happening across the bay. We went up to Safeway just after 10 PM. The moon was out; but it was nothing but fog by 11 PM. Happens too often. This fog usually shuts down the CAL-STAR air ambulance flights; but they were active up around Felton...

Felton! Used to live in Lompico. Still get over that way to Felton/Boulder Creek for an occasional Brookdale Lodge/Don Quixote show.

Brookdale Lodge...wow, stayed there overnight after a Dead Guise show...though the hotel room kept shapeshifting. Do u know Lee & Robin Martin who used to vend at the Shoreline - Tiedye and apparel. Also had a shop in Santa Cruz

Well, haven't lived up that way since 89, so if I knew them, it was only by sight. As you know, more than a few deadheads around the Santa Cruz area...

I knew Lee from his many years of vending at the AlamedaCo Fair(Attlan Imports). In the 6/21/89 Summer Solstice show at the Shoreline, The PPV crew shot footage walking thru the market area (between sets) I think he was briefly interviewed at his tiedye stand. Yeah, lots of hippies in the Cruz!

saw it up here in AK. Didnt feel the need to see if for more than a minute. For some reason celestrial events dont really get me off for more than a quick look. Did watch a GREAT movie last night though - 44 inch chest. If you enjoy movies with great actiing and dialog without having to have a hard on for guns then I highly recommend it. Oh you have to have a high threshold for profanity too - good lord possibly the most c words in a film ever,

Wow. I'm seriously impressed. Guess he doesn't just have a Toys R Us telescope and a point-n-shoot camera! Hope you played Mountains of the Moon for him to go along with the pics! Sadly, we set the alarm, but it was completely overcast. I'll just have to enjoy the digitally mediated (and yet less sleepy) experience ...

He has, um, more than one telescope - it's more like an obsession than a hobby ... he's just getting into astrophotography, though, and he told me not to brag about the pictures as apparently people with more experience than him can take much better ones. They look pretty cool to me ...

More like an obsession than a hobby? Hmmm, sounds familiar. I see the next episode of Cliff's movie developing here. "I need more shows!" "No, I need more telescopes!"

Great shots, and thanks for posting them. Like jg I saw one a few years back, but the colour wasn't so pronounced - it just looked sort of muddy.

Very nice stuff! If he (and you) ever get out to the Mojave Desert, let me know...I'll let him run a couple of 34-meter radio telescopes...one of them was used in the Apollo missions and the other in the defunct Star Wars Initiative. One of my little obsessions!

Nice pics . . . we decided to not set the alarm and if we awoke around 2 AM would look outside, but of course we slept right through . . . sleep is good.

I did see a lunar eclipse from the fishing boat one night many moons ago (pun intended).
